March 2022 Minto Garden’s New Café – Byala Café

Residents at Anglicare’s Minto Gardens Retirement Village have welcomed the opening of the latest on-site amenity, Byala Café. When the doors opened at 9.30am on Monday 7 February 2022, residents were waiting out the front, keen to be the among the first to try out the newest addition to their village.

A friendly place to enjoy a morning coffee is now just minutes away from home for residents, who can order from an array of hot and cold drinks, plus Babycinos for the grandkids. Adding to the ‘feel good’ factor, the coffee sourced is from The Little Marionette, an award-winning speciality coffee roaster embracing social and environmental responsibilities.

The food on offer includes banana bread, salads, wraps, quiches and, for the sweet tooth, vanilla ice-cream with a choice of topping. Each day, there will also be a selection of cakes and pastries available in the display case.

Minto Gardens Chaplain, Sashi Grayndler, has welcomed the café as “a great space for the residents to gather and get to know each other, as well as being a place for the neighbours in nearby streets to drop in. In fact, the clergy from our local church are already planning their weekly meeting at Byala!”

Byala, meaning ’let’s talk’ in the language of the Dharawal people, recognises this as a place where people can come together for a yarn or chat and to connect with each other. Byala is a way of keeping the local people connected to their land, culture, spirituality, families, and community; and by continuing to keep those important connections to the Dharawal people.
