October 2022 Minto’s day out- Tip toe through the tulips

It felt right to embark on our first expedition as we neared our first anniversary as a retirement village. To see the stunning tulips at Bowral’s Corbett Gardens, sixteen residents and three staff members took the first bus journey to the Southern Highlands.

Spirits were high and the laughter was loud as we set off to Mittagong where residents enjoyed morning tea and had the opportunity to enjoy viewing some of the gardens of the locals, from our bus window. Such beautiful hedges, trees and bushes trimmed to perfection!

Back on board the bus, we had exciting game random draw reward. Irene, Vesna, and Dori each received a boxed set of gloves, a beanie, and a scarf to protect them from the chilly Southern Highlands weather.

We arrived in Bowral to enjoy lunch at the Bowral Bowling Club. Our residents loved interacting with one another over two tables of bountiful food and light-hearted banter. Our destination was Corbett Gardens, where we spent some time exploring the assortment of tulips. In addition to tulips, pansies and camellias were also used to decorate the gardens. We certainly beat out both our legs and our cameras!

Finally, at 3pm, tired but satisfied, we boarded the bus to return, enjoying some chocolates that a thoughtful resident brought to share. As we entered the Minto Gardens driveway, we cheered to thank Patrick and the staff members who organised the lovely day away. There’s already talk for the next excursion, so stay tuned…

If you’d like to join a resident’s group to organise events like this one and others, please let Sashi Grayndler know – we’d love to have you on board.
